Deacon Dan Davis, Jr., was born the son of the late Mr. Dan and Credell Louise Miley Davis, September 8, 1939, in HamptonCounty, South Carolina (The Davis Hill). At the age of 12, he joined Cherry Grove Christian Church, Brunson, SC. He attended the public schools of Hampton County, and was a graduate of the former North District Training School, Varnville, SC. Dan furthered his education at Beaufort Technical College, where he received a degree in Electronics/Mechanics.

 In 1971, he was ordained as a Deacon at Cherry Grove Christian Church, where he served as Sunday School Secretary. Deacon Davis was employed for 31 years at Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Nevamar),Hampton, SC, and sole proprietor of Davis Landfilling for 28 years. He was the founding member of 52 years of Mt. Olive Lodge #466 Hampton,SC, serving two years as Past Worshipful Master, Rising Star Chapter#359, Order of Eastern Star, and Fairview Lodge #393, Estill, SC. Deacon Davis served as secretary for Royal Arch, he was a member of Prince HallConsistory #282, Barnwell, SC, Arabin Temple #139, Charleston, SC,and a former committee member of the Hampton County Watermelon Festival. Dan also served on numerous committees. In 1997, he married the former Ethel Bostick. Dan was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charlie Davis.Deacon Davis passed away on May 11, 2017, at the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville, South Carolina.

Deacon Davis leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Ethel B. Davis of the home; three daughters, Deaconess JaniceLee (Deacon Jimmie) of North Augusta, SC, Darlene (Archie) Dean of Atlanta, GA, and Vicky (Michael, Sr.) Smith, of Varnville, SC; three stepdaughters, Deaconess Tonya (Deacon Roger) Ransom of Jacksonville,FL, Trina Wilson of Varnville, SC, and Stephanie Brown of the home; a devoted grandson, Ezra Brown of the home; one brother, Elder William “Bill” Davis of Fairfax, SC; four sisters, Dorothy Murdaugh of Estill, SC, Polly Moore, Ruth Davis and Deacon Hattie Folk, all of Varnville, SC; one godsister, Deaconess Leversia Loadholt of Hampton, SC; one brother-in-law, William Odom of Estill, SC; two sisters-inlaw,Birdell (Leroy) Bryant and Fannie Bostick, both of Brooklyn, NY; ten grandchildren, Zuriel, Chocie, April, Michael Jr., Janna, Thomas,Alexis, Ezra, O’Jarran and Zephenya; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin, Addie Miley of Brooklyn, NY; and many special friends including, Deacon James Black, Deacon IsaacSmith, Deacon Willie Strobhart, Bro. Johnny Riley, Bro. Ulysee Green, Bro. Leonard Folk, Bro. Ossie White, Bro. Carey Sanders, Bro. James Harley, Vincent Dunbar, and many others, too numerous to name.
