Elisha Genell “Gee” Hagood was born on July 25, 1975, in Hampton, South Carolina to James Hagood, Jr., and the late Elaine Grant Hagood. She attended the public schools of Hampton School District One and graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1994. She also attended Denmark Technical College, where she pursued Early Childhood Studies. At an early age, Elisha attended Huspah Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Harmonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully, worked with the youth department, and served on the usher board.
