Mr. Jessie Johnson was born on January 20, 1956, the son of the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Carrie Johnson in Hampton County, South Carolina. At an early age, he joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Furman, South Carolina. Jessie was first employed with Georgia Pacific, (now defunct) in Varnville, South Carolina. He was currently employed as a forklift driver with Elliott Saw Mill, Estill, South Carolina. Jessie loved to farm and took pride in his garden.
Jessie met and married his high school sweetheart of 39 years, Jennie Rose Cohen, on November 17, 1979. This union was blessed with three children.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; grandson, Cumsee O’Banner; four sisters; seven brothers; three sisters-in-law; his father; mother-in-law, JC (Queen Ester) Cohen; Our Heavenly Father called him to rest September 5, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Jessie leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Jennie R. Johnson of Furman, SC; three daughters Kemo (Joseph) Henderson of Furman, SC, Jessica Johnson (John) Johnson of Hampton, SC, and Nakitha Johnson (Dominique) of Okatie, SC; grandchildren whom he cherished and adored, Jyrell Collins, Jarius Henderson, Ny’Asia Henderson, John Anderson, Jathan Anderson, Jamir Nelson, and Kaine Nelson; one sister, Rosa Johnson of Furman, SC; two brothers, Marion (Elease) Johnson of Furman, SC, and Ulysee (Cynthia) Johnson of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Essie B. (John) Saxon of Furman, SC; aunts-in-law, Sadie Mae Walker, Emma Shaw, and Hattie Walker; uncle-in-law, Marion Cohen, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Ollie Mae (Nathaniel) Williams, Lillian (Ed) Holmes, Pheobe (Ernest) Williams, Earlene Robinson, Ruthie Cohen, Rubin Cohen, and Rose Ann Walker; brothers-in- law, JC Cohen, and Michael Cohen; adopted brother, McArthur (Andrea) Williams and adopted sister, Annette Taylor, both of Furman, SC; several nieces and nephews reared as his own, Sabrina Walker, Yvonne Brown, Keith Walker, Zachary Holmes, Quinette Williams, Zyairah Robinson, and Kahleal Cohen; a host of cousins, including a special cousin-in-law, David Walker; other relatives, co-workers, and friends; and special friends, George Fullington, Edward Scott, Steve Brown, and Willie Haynes, who will forever cherish precious memories of Jessie.
