Antioch California, formerly of Fairfax,SC- Muriel Gloria Toomer Joyner was born on May 14, 1926, to the late Mr. James Arthur Sr., and Mrs. Helen Dennison Toomer. Muriel spent her life in service to others, from her time working as a social worker in New York to her work as an elementary school and music teacher in South Carolina. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hampton, South Carolina and served as  financial secretary for the Good Samaritans Capers Lodge #4 in Brunson, South Carolina. Her warm and giving nature will be greatly missed.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Joyner Jr., her parents, sister, Delores West, and brother, James A. Toomer Jr.

Muriel departed this life on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Island Angel Care, Antioch, California.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, sons, Wendell (Angela) Joyner, California, Dudley Arthur (Camilla) Nation Sr., New York, Rodney  Thomas, South Carolina and Kevin (Zewetta)  Thomas, South Carolina; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
