Life’s Reflections
A Time to be Born:
Rosa Lee “Bunch” Manuel Smoaks, the eldest of four children, was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thomas and the late Essie Mae Manuel, October 9, 1942, in Fairfax, South Carolina.
A Time to serve:
At an early age, Rosa Lee joined Miller Swamp Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a 1962 graduate of the former Fairfax Training School. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Willie James Smoaks, Sr., and four children were born to this union. Rosa later relocated to New Haven, Connecticut.
Upon returning to South Carolina, Rosa became employed for Scotsman Ice Systems, the Lawton and Laffiette families.
A Time to Die:
To greet her at the heavenly gates with open arms are her parents, husband, Mr. Willie James Smoaks, Sr., and a daughter, Annette Smoaks. On Friday, January 4, 2019 at University Summerville Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
A Time to be Remembered:
Rosa Lee leaves to cherish her fond memories: a devoted daughter, Earnestine Smoaks of the home; devoted sons, Willie James (Samantha) Smoaks, Jr., and Issac Donald Smoaks, all of Fairfax, South Carolina; devoted sister, Mary Lou Lee, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; devoted brothers, Bennie Lee (Ester) Manuel, Fairfax, South Carolina, and Lesley Manuel, Barnwell, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Paticia Smoaks, New Haven, Connecticut; eight grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
