Tucker Charlton was born the son of the late Mr. Ben Charlton and Mrs. Ophelia Badger Charlton, February 25, 1934, in Allendale County, South Carolina. At an early age, he joined St. Matthews AME Church, Luray, South Carolina. He received his education in the public schools of Allendale County, South Carolina.
He was a member of Fairview Lodge #339, and employed as a Field Operations Technician for Groton Plantation for over 50 years. Tucker loved his family, his dogs, and being outdoors while riding with his best friend, the late Mr. Frank Brown.
Tucker was married to the late Mrs. Nora Lee Taylor Charlton, and to this union three children were born. He’s preceded in death by his wife, a son, Willie “Tuck Charlie” Gardner, sisters: Sarah Patterson, Corine Charlton, and Rosa Bell Maner; and brother: J.C. Charlton.
Tucker transitioned from this life to life triumphant on Friday, June 7, 2019, at his daughter’s residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: loving and devoted children, Tyre (Carmichael) Williams, Tucker Charlton, Jr., and Eric (Bernice) Charlton, all of Fairfax, SC; a loving sister, Albertha Charlton, Rochdale, New York; five sisters- in-law, Frances Taylor, Luray, SC, Linda Charlton, Florida, Soletta Taylor, Gifford, SC, Jessie Mae Taylor and Hercil Taylor, both of Estill, SC; two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Lee Woods, Sr., Gifford, SC, and Carnell Grant, Jersey City, NJ; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, including a special niece, Ida Dobson; and numerous nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Mattie Snellings.
