Our beloved mother Bertha Lee Woods Scriven was born the daughter of the late Mr. Henry Miller and the late Rosella Woods on March 23, 1948 in Allendale County South Carolina. She was fondly known as Bert to family and friends. She peacefully entered eternal rest on March 9, 2021 at her home in Gifford SC. At an early age, Bertha joined Emmanuel RMUE Church, Gifford South Carolina. She was a faithful member, she was head of the Usher Board and a member of the Missionary Society, where she served faithfully. Bertha was education in Allendale County Public Schools, Allendale South Carolina For numerous years, Bertha worked as a dedicated and loyal employee in the textile industry. She worked as a machine operator for Queen Carpet and Shaw Manufacturing, and took pride in her commitment to her employment. Her greatest enjoyment was being a caregiver for over ten years to many in the community.
Bertha was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Johnnie L. Scriven. Bertha had four children, Linnet, Annette, Denise and John. John preceded her in death. A very special, devoted daughter and her favorite riding partner, Wanda. A devoted granddaughter reared as a daughter, Aquanda. Bertha’s life exemplified that of a phenomenal, independent woman. She was family-oriented and was driven by her commitment to her church, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her heartstrings. They thought fondly of her and called her Granny, Grandma, Bert, and her favorite of all Gi-Gi, for they knew she would go above and beyond to ensure they were doing well and had the needs and desires of their heart. She looked forward to family vacations with her family. She enjoyed spending time working for her sisters at The Curry’s Shop, Gifford South Carolina and TNP Furniture, Fairfax, South Carolina where she served, laughed, joked, and communicated with the community.
