On November 8, 1953, an angel by the name of Betty “Moochie” Barnwell was born to the late Mr. Lewis and the late Mrs. Lillie Mae Haynes in Hampton County. Betty received her education in the public schools in Hampton County, South Carolina, and Brooklyn, New York. At an early age, she joined Friendship United Methodist Church, Ehrhardt, South Carolina. She relocated to New York, and upon returning to South Carolina, she united with the membership of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher.
Betty was employed as a CNA for the former Hampton General Hospital (Hampton Regional Medical Center), Varnville, South Carolina, and later Tide Pointe(Vi Community), Hilton Head, South Carolina, until her health began to decline. On Friday, August 23, 2019, at Roper Hospital in North Charleston, South Carolina, God called her home to rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Lillie Mae Haynes, and a sister, Rachael Haynes.
Cherishing her loving memory: a loving and devoted daughter, Crystalyn; two precious granddaughters, Destine and Ja’Nay; five sisters, Beulah Speaks, Scotia, SC, Elizabeth Cohen, Savannah, GA, Barbara (Amos) Walker, Brooklyn, NY, Annie Buffaloe, Brooklyn, NY, and Inez Priester, Tampa, FL; three devoted nephews whom she loved as her own, Bryan, Andy, and Alex; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including four devoted friends, Mrs. Diane Hamilton, Mrs. Carolyn Capers, Mrs. Ann Griffin, and special friend, Lunetta Grayson; and four special transport drivers for weekly dialysis.
