Christine Priester Gooding was born in Hampton County, South Carolina, on December 25, 1944 to the late Rena Mole and Butler Rodd. She surrendered to the summon of her Creator on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at St. Francis-Roper Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina.
At an early age Sister Gooding dedicated her life to the sovereign will of God and became a baptized member of Harmonia Baptist Church in Varnville, South Carolina, where she served faithfully, ushering and singing on the choir.
She was a graduate of North District Training School, Class of 1962. Sister Gooding was employed by Lowcountry Transportation for several years.
She was married to the late Bonnie Gooding in 1977.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Hilton and Tracy Bennett; three sisters, Alma Hagood, Mary Jane Bennett and Luesinder Bowles; six brothers, Willie James Priester, Brooke Rodd, Norris Moore, John Moore, Jan Moore and Robert Moore.
Sister Gooding leaves behind to cherish fond memories: her daughter, Shamonde (Dwaine Morris) Gooding of Hampton, SC; one son, Denzel Bennett of Birmingham, Alabama; reared in the home, seven grandchildren; Keike, Shavira, ShaJira, Javaiah and Kadence of Williston, SC, Khalil, Jayden and Shavon of Hampton, SC; two step-sons, Darion (Inez) Bennett and Scottie (Dianne) of Savannah, Ga; one sister, Barbara (Deacon Haiston) Priester of Camp Branch, South Carolina; one brother, Billy (Inez) Bennett of NC; one brother-in-law, Deacon James Hagood of Hampton, SC; one sister-in-law, Irene Priester of Hampton, SC; one son-in-law, Ronald Hilton of North Augusta, SC; a special cousin of the home, Tony Munion; a long-time friend, Louise Middleton of Hampton, SC; a special friend, Marion Cohen of Hampton, SC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
