Councilwoman Nora lee Moreland

Councilwoman Nora Moreland Obituary

We celebrate the life of Nora Lee Moreland. She was
born April 10, 1942, in Gifford, SC, to the late Nora and
Eugene Brown, and reared by the late Jake and Daisy
Wright. She was the youngest of eleven girls and one
boy. She was a graduate of the Estill Training School in
Estill, SC. Later in life, she moved to Newark, NJ, where
she met and was united in holy matrimony to Frank
Moreland.
She was a former member of Mount Olivet Missionary
Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, serving as deaconess and
missionary. She retired from MetLife, Inc., in NJ, after
30 years as an insurance specialist. She later returned
back home to Gifford, SC, and diligently served at
Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church as deaconess
and church financial administrator. Nora Moreland
was a respected elected official of the Gifford Town
Council, and she was a member of the Historical June
Festival Celebration Committee. She was the founder
and president of the Frank Moreland, Jr., Scholarship
Foundation, Inc.
She was preceded in eternal life by her parents, Nora and
Eugene Brown, and Jake and Daisy Wright; son, Frank
Moreland, Jr.; a brother; and eight sisters.
Nora took her journey home to eternal rest on August
4, 2022, at Augusta University Hospital in Augusta, GA,
resulting from complications of an automobile accident.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a loving
husband, Frank Moreland, Sr., of Gifford, SC; son,
Rodney Hamilton-Moreland of NJ; grandson, Jahad
Moreland of NJ; granddaughter, Brianna Moreland
of NJ; one great-granddaughter; four goddaughters,
Vonzea Nelson of NJ, Derricka Cotman of FL, and
Natalie Williams and April Allen, both of SC; daughterin-
law, Latoya Moreland; three sisters, Mellef Williams
of NJ, and Hazel Ishmela and Dora Ginn, both of Gifford,
SC; sister-in-law, Rochelle Steagall of OH; two brothersin-
law, John Moreland of NJ, and Willie Moreland of
OH; loving in-laws of GA; special and devoted friend,
Sonia Biven; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
