Dr. Sarah Williams Obituary


“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands on us; yes, the work of our hands, establish it.”
She was born Sarah Frances Rivers on November 25, 1937, in Hampton, SC, the beloved daughter of the late Jacob Rivers, Sr., and Edna Crosson Rivers. At an early age, Sarah Frances joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities. She recieved her education in the public schools of Hampton County, attended the Mather School for Colored Girls, Beaufort, SC, and continued her educational journey at the Waverly’s School of Beauty Culture, Columbia, SC. On June 28, 1959, she met and married the late Reverend Sidney Williams, and to this union, three children were born.
She sojourned alongside her husband, serving as first lady of Beautiful Gate Baptist Church, Allendale, SC; Ervington Baptist Church, Allendale, SC; Padgett Branch Baptist Church, Pineland, SC; Galilee Baptist Church, Appleton, SC; Zion Hill Baptist Church, Allendale, SC; and Great Cypress Baptist Church, Barnwell, SC.
“Ms. Frances”, as she was affectionally called, was the sole proprietor of Frances Beauty Salon for over sixty years, as well as the cosmetologist for Riley’s Funeral Home Hampton Chapel for over forty years. She was a member of the Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority; Progressive Beauty Workers Club, local level; Region Two, regional level; South Carolina State Cosmetologist Association, state level; and National Beauty Culturists’ League, Inc., national level, where she received her doctorate of Professional Cosmetology. She was a mentor, educator, and an inspiration to cosmetologists. She would always encourage them to educate themselves within their profession. Dr. Williams was a member of Rising Star Chapter #225, Gifford, SC for over 60 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, two sisters, and two brothers.
On May 9, 2020, God summoned Dr. Sarah Frances Williams home to rest from Roper Hospital, Charleston, SC.
She leaves to adore and cherish her memories: loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Sidnard and Cynthia Williams, Sr., of Barnwell, SC; sister, Juanita Glover of Varnville, SC; brother, Edward Crosson of Varnville, SC; brothers-in-law, Deacon James Williams of Brunson, SC, and Lenon Brooker of Hampton, SC; two granddaughters, Trinity Williams and Natassja Thomas;two great grand children : Jaivyona and Jamya, one grandson, Sidnard Williams, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Shannon Johnson and Felicia Brooks; step-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Valarie, Caleb Johnson, Felicia, Jayden Brooks, and Chole Bell; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; caregivers, Beverly Loadholt, Mayetta (Johnnie) Williams, Ora Lee Cave, and Betty Sabb; and a host of other relatives and sympathizing friends.
