Obituary

“I do not pray that you should take them out of the world,
but that you should keep them from the evil one.”
John 17:15
On August 12, 1944, Ollie Mae Heyward was born to Isaac
and Lillie Heyward in Hampton County. She graduated
from Estill Training School in 1961 at the age of 16. Ollie
was a huge protector of her family.
Upon graduation, Ollie moved to Brooklyn, New York, to live
with her Aunt Bell and Uncle Hosea where she met William
Welch. They were married in 1968. This unison was blessed
with three children, Charisse, William Jr., and Janelle,
and one grandson, Mason. She joined Good Samaritan
Holiness Church where she accepted the Lord as her Savior.
She retired from NYNEX Telephone Company in 1989 and
moved to Raleigh, NC, where she started a Daycare Center
in her home.
On September 4, 2022, God called Ollie from labor to rest
at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Isaac and Lillie Heyward, daughter, Charisse Welch, sister,
Evangelist Carolyn Jamison, and brother, Dan White.
Ollie leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband,
William Welch, Sr.; one son, William Welch, Jr., of the home;
one daughter, Janelle Johnson of Wilmington, NC; one
grandson, Mason Johnson of Wilmington, NC; sisters, Lula
Bell Wright (Anthony) of Garland, TX, Evangelist Debra
(Michael) Scott and Christine James, both of Varnville,
SC; brothers, Elder Daniel Heyward, Isaac Heyward,
Jr., Nathaniel Heyward and Bishop David (Debra Ann)
Heyward, all of Varnville, SC, Harry Lee Heyward (Shenna)

and Sheldine Welch, all of Queens, NY; brothers-in-law,
John (Mary) Welch of Durham, NC, Jeroy Jamison, Sr., of
