Ellarie “Tiny” Reed

“Tiny”, as she was affectionately known to all, was the first daughter born into the Christian home of Deacon Shelly and Lue Ether Brunson Mays on June 12, 1932.
Upon graduating from Fairfax Training School, Fairfax, SC, she married James Washington, and to this union two daughters were born, Gloria Ann and Harriet Gail. Tiny later moved to New York City, where she was gainfully employed in the medical field. In 1983, she returned home to South Carolina to care for her mother. She sought employment with the Marriott Hotel, Hilton Head, SC, and retired after 15 years of service.
“Tiny's Christian experience was nourished in the United House of Prayer, New York City, NY, and Fairfax, SC. She later joined Jackson Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Brunson, SC, where she served faithfully in the Senior Choir and also the Pastor’s Aide Committee.
“Tiny” was an outgoing person and loved children. She provided babysitting and after-school care services to many working parents in the community. She was preceded in death by her daughters and husbands: James Washington and Thomas Reed; her siblings: Hammie Mays, James Mays, Willie Mays, and Ethel Mays; nieces and nephews: Sherise Mays, Sharon Ritter, Hammie Mays, Jr., Dane Mays, and Randy Mays; and stepdaughter: Cassandra Hallingquest.

On Sunday evening, May 16, 2021, our beloved “Tiny” transitioned peacefully at the residence of her grandson-in-law and granddaughter: Jerome and Latoya Washington-Wilkins.

Albany, and great-granddaughter: Tierra Wilkins, of the home; sisters-in-law: Retha Mays of Fairfax, SC, Wilhelmina Mays of Orangeburg, SC, and Bennie Lee Mays of Allendale, SC; nieces: Pamela Mays-Smith of Fairfax, SC, Tina Wiggins of Allendale, SC, Denise Manuel of Fairfax, SC, Marvine Mays of New York, NY, Kechia Marks of New York, NY, Linda Marks of New York, NY, Paula Mays of Lithonia, GA, Sadie Rimes of Philadelphia, PA, and Demenia Mays-Fulton of Orangeburg, SC; nephews: Dwayne Britt of Springfield, MA, and Quamall Mays of New York, NY; devoted cousins: Dorothy Brunson, Carolyn Brown, Napoleon Brunson, and Jonathan Brunson of Scotia, SC, Bill (Thelma) Cohen of New York, NY, Mary Grubbs of New York, NY, Jessie Mays, Jr., of Charleston, SC, Robin Washington of Philadelphia, PA, and Patricia Highsmith of Fairfax, SC; godchildren: Blondell James, Andrae Sanders, and Catherine Sanders of New Jersey; bonus granddaughter: Younique Sheldon of Hampton, SC; special great-great-nieces: Vionna Mays of Fairfax, SC, and KennedyGrace Smith of North Charleston, SC; devoted friends: Nancy Gray, Betty Major, and Sarah Thomas of Fairfax, SC, and Susan Kinsey and family of Bluffton, SC; and other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
