Mr. James Rodges Grant, affectionately known as “Rodges,” was born on August 12, 1942, in Ehrhardt, South Carolina, to the late Faire Powell and Conrad Grant. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, he was entrusted with and fulfilled many duties while actively serving as a faithful member, until he became ill. After many years of hard work and dedication, he retired from Brunson Building Supply in 2004. He was a leader, teacher, and positive influence to others, family was very important to him, and he has filled voids for so many people. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly M. Grant; one son, Michael A. Grant; and two brothers, Willie and John Powell.After traveling the highway to Heaven, Rodges Grant reached his final destination on July 4, 2021, in the comfort of his home, with his family.
He leaves to “hold it in the road:” two daughters, Carolyn “Molly” (George) Small of Beaufort, SC, and Miranda Jones, Yemassee, SC; four sisters, Carrie Mae Folk, Mary (Albert) Butler, Anna Bell Powell, and Mary Nell Wrice, all of Hampton, SC; one brother, Benjamin (Pearl) Powell of Atlanta, GA; brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Wrice of Hampton, SC, John (Bedy) Capers of Okeechobee, FL, Joe Griffin of Columbia, SC, and Joe Askew of Colerain, NC; sisters-in-law, Peggy Powell of Hampton, SC, and Carrie Smith of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; like a brother, Billy Moore; adopted daughter, Marilyn Spruill; and a community of other special relatives and friends, including special friend, Essie Mae Ruth.
