Brother Jessie Wright, affectionately known as “Sambo” was born on June 22, 1956, in Hampton County, South Carolina, to the late Henry and Katherine L. Wright. He was the third child of eleven. Jessie departed this life on Friday, Decem- ber 4, 2020, to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at Sprenger Health Care of Port Royal in Port Royal, South Carolina.
Jessie was educated in the Hampton County public school system. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School “Class of 1974”, and served as Class Treasurer. He also attended Voorhees College in Denmark, SC, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Jessie was a member of Christ Church the Deliverance Temple of God in Varnville, SC, and later became a member of Antioch Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he sang faithfully as a Choir Member and was a dedicated servant and served on the Board of Trustees.Jessie was a people’s person and would help anyone, whatever the need. He was an avid road traveler in his care for others. And he loved each of his many nephews, nieces and god-children. Each held a place in his heart; however, his nephew, Braylyn Salmond in many regards was the son he never had. Jessie held him close to his heart.
