John H. “Bo Pete” Goodingwas born in Hampton, South Carolina, on February 12, 1934, to the late Mr. Primus Gooding, Sr., and Mrs. Marie Gooding.
He received his education in the public schools of Hampton County and later furthered his studies, where he received an Associates Degree. John was a member of the Antioch Christian Church and was employed as a mechanic for the Hampton County School Bus system for many years.
John was a loving husband, daddy, and friend. He was a master carpenter, certified mechanic, accomplished gardener, and amazing storyteller. John was honored to have served his country as a United States Marine. “Bo Pete,” as he was affectionately called, enjoyed watching old movies, fishing, traveling with family, and hanging out on his front porch with friends.
John will be greeted into Heaven’s gates by his parents; wife of 50 plus years, Sadie Davis Gooding; son, Christopher Gooding; daughter, Shelia Allen; and siblings, Eugene Gooding, Edna Gooding, Primus Gooding, Mary Ann Risher, and Barney Gooding.
He entered Heaven’s gates to be with our Lord on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina.
John’s loving memory will forever be cherished by: his loving children, Debra Ann Gooding of Columbia, South Carolina, Melissa C. (Derrick) Hayes of Fairfax, Virginia, Samantha (William) Newton of Varnville, South Carolina, Stacy (David) Weston of Sumter, South Carolina, John (Michelle) Gooding, Jr., of Sumter, South Carolina, Kendric Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, and Eartha Bennett of Brooklyn, New York; brothers- in-law, James Risher of Gifford, South Carolina, and John Donald Davis of Hampton, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Christine Gooding of Hampton, South Carolina; grandchildren who he was truly adored by, Quinn, and Markquet Brown of the home, Cenise, and Christopher Gooding, Anastashia Gooding, William Newton, Jr., Kenya, Danielle, and Dominique Weston, Taryn Hayes, Kenari Davis, Donnie, Xavier, and Michael James, and Christopher Durant; great-grandchildren, Christian, Makayla, and Olivia; great-niece and friend, CharMonique Risher; and a host of nieces, nephews , cousins, other relatives, and very special friends.
The family of John H. Gooding extends their sincere appreciation for all acts of kindness shown during their hours of sorrow. Given the challenges created by COVID19, the family asks that the service be limited to only 50 family members inside of the cemetery. The Gooding family plans to hold a public celebration Mr. Gooding's life at a later time.
