The pilgrimage of life began for John Henry Mitchell in Allendale, South Carolina, on March 31, 1943. He was the son of the late Harry Go and Henrietta Riley Mitchell. Following an earthly stay of 77 years, this pilgrimage came to a close for our beloved on Monday night, March 8, 2021. Our beloved was nurtured and reared in Allendale, South Carolina. While in Allendale, South Carolina, he attended Allendale County Public Schools. At an early age, he joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Gifford and became a member of St. Peter AME Church in Gifford, South Carolina.
In 1961, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, and was united in marriage to the late Mary Sue Wilder Mitchell. After relocating to Brooklyn, New York, he became self-employed as an Automotive Mechanic. In 1996, he moved back to South Carolina and worked happily as a painter and mechanic, until he retired. He was very attached to his immediate family and showered them with love, compassion, and devotion.
