JOHNNIE LEE HICKS was born on October 1, 1958, to the late Johnny and Lucille Green Hicks in Hampton County, SC. He departed this life on Friday, April 23, 2021, at MUSC Ashley River Tower, Charleston, SC. At an early age, Johnnie united with the membership of Rock Spring Baptist Church Early Branch, South Carolina. Upon graduating from Wade Hampton High School in 1976, Johnnie later enlisted in the US Army.Johnnie was joined in holy matrimony to Judy Buckner on December 30, 1978. This union was blessed with six, children.
He was employed with Carsonite International, Hampton, South Carolina, until his health started to decline in 2002. Johnnie was a member of the VFW Post, Fairfax, SC. He was a fun-loving guy. He loved God, his family, cooking, singing, and good music. There was never a dull moment. He was witty, smart, and always had the best jokes.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Lucille Hicks, one brother, Robert Greene, and sister, Annette Givens.
He will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him. Johnnie leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Judy Hicks; six beautiful, loving children, Sheniqua Riley, Chakischa Hicks, Dieesha Hicks, and Jennifer Hicks, all of Hampton, SC, Amelia (Anthony) Gray of Estill, SC, and Johnnie Lee Hicks, Jr., of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Chorderro Williams and Jada Moore of Hampton, SC, and Jayden Hicks of Greenville SC; four sisters, Deloris Doctor, Janet (Darnell) Mitchell, and Diane Hicks of Varnville, SC, and Erica Jenkins of Early Branch, SC; five brothers, Jimmy (Debra) Hicks, Johnny Shanks, and Kenneth Davis, all Varnville, SC, Alphonso (Tish) Hicks of Fort Washington, MD, and Jake (Rose) Obanner of Estill, SC; brothers-in-law, Franklin (Sharon) Buckner of Augusta GA, Sylvester Buckner of Atlanta, GA, and Bobby Givens of Hampton, SC; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Alphonso) Dunbar and Debbie (Larry) Latrell Hicks of Varnville, SC, April Buckner of Erhardt, SC, and Pricilla Lindsay of NC; uncles, James Jeeter and wife of Jacksonville, FL, David and Joseph Buckner of Ashton, SC, and Roy Buckner of Aiken, SC; aunts, Juanita Hicks and Judy (David) Simmons of Varnville, SC; special aunt, Dorothy Murdaugh of Ashton, SC; Ace Boon Coons, Ricky White, Larry Riley, Phillip Strother, Sabrina Harley, and Kezia Fennell of Hampton, SC, Beatrice Mays of Fairfax SC, and Annette Taylor of Furman, SC; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
