 The Obituary

A Time to Be Born and a Time to Die: Johnnie was born April 24, 1944, to the late Geneva “Flossie” Gothie Williams and the late Charles Williams. He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 22, 2019.

A Time to Weep and a Time to Laugh: He grew up on the outskirts of Miley, South Carolina, near Davis Hill. Growing up, his years were filled with family fun, hard work, and loving people— five siblings, Granny, aunts, uncles, and many, many cousins and friends. He attended the public schools of Hampton County. He graduated from North District Training School in 1964. In addition to his parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth A. Williams.

A time to tear down and a time to build up: Johnnie entered the real work world after high school. His work career began with Brunson Construction as a helper for Bro. Willie Murdaugh, an experienced craftsman. Johnnie took advantage of this opportunity and became a skilled painter. He continued in this line of work until his health failed.

A time to love and a time to hate; a Time to be Silent and a Time to Speak: From a child, Johnnie knew to love and honor God. During the early years and throughout high school, he attended Sunday school and church at Miley Church of God, Miley, SC. As an adult, fulfilling the role of being his mother’s chauffeur, he attended and later became an active member of Little Mt. Sinai Church of the Living God Upon the Rock. He, however, had a two-fold purpose—spiritual and social. He was in love with the bishop’s granddaughter, Demaris. He married Demaris Smalls on Valentine’s Day, 1982, and they became the proud parents of a son and a daughter. Johnnie continued his commitment to Little Mt. Sinai, serving as a deacon until his health declined.

A time to mourn and a time to dance: His memories will be cherished by: his devoted wife, Demaris; son, Corey ( Saquanna) Williams of Walterboro, SC; daughter, Jessica Williams of the home; two grandsons, Amari and Jarious; two granddaughters, Arisen and Forever; three sisters, Gertie (Bobby) Singley of Elizabeth, NJ, Lois (Dennis) Thompson, and Florie Taylor, both of Varnville, SC; one brother, Joseph (Monique) Williams, Hampton, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; aunt and uncles-in-law; and a special care-giver, Rose Doe.
