Mary Kelly Alexander was born on March 28, 1950, to the late Mrs. Letha Kelly (Sam) Jennings and Mr. Rudolph Rivers, Sr., in Hampton County, South Carolina. She received her education in the public schools of Hampton County and later furthered her studies to pursue an associate’s degree. Mary attended worship services at the Huspah Missionary Baptist Church in Hampton, South Carolina.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Roosevelt Alexander. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by: a daughter, Monica Rakes; brothers, Hugh Edward Rivers, Rudolph Rivers, Jr., and Rodrick Rivers; and three sisters, Daisy Rivers Hope, Dorothy Shaver, and Frances Rivers Lee.
Mary’s soul took flight on July 31, 2021, at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina.
She is survived by: devoted grandchildren, Darlton W. Mingo, Beonca Washington, and Bernard Washington; six great-grandchildren, Kryston Mingo, Irianna Gill, Serenity Gill, Jakayla Washington, Aydan Washington, and Jayden Washington; brothers, Pastor John H. Capers, Sr. (Yvonne), of Rockledge Florida, James Rivers (Terry), Rhondell Bostick, Sr., both of Charlotte, North Carolina, Richard Rivers of St. Augustine, Florida, and Sedrick Rivers (Kimberly) of Savannah, Georgia; sisters, Barbara Bratton of Tampa, Florida, Isabella Rivers of Miami, Florida, Apostle Patricia Brown (Thomas) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mary Kay Rivers of Jacksonville, Florida; uncle, James Bubba Kelly of Brunson, South Carolina; two aunts, Patsy Scarborough of Sumter, South Carolina, and Rose Mary Wesley (Arthur); and a host of other relatives and caring friends
