Mother Helen Ernestine Wright, beloved daughter of the late Mr. James Sr., and Mrs. Lillie Hayes Washington, was born September 8, 1927, in Hampton County. Seeking divine guidance at an early age, she joined Jackson Branch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bush, where she served with the usher board and sang with the senior choir. She was educated in the public schools of Allendale County. On October 25, 1949, she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Izell “Dill” Wright.
Mother Wright was a loving and devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by two children, Mary Ellis Wright-Freeman and Benjamin Franklin Wright; three brothers, Jim Washington, Frank Washington, and George Washington; one sister, Alberta Robinson; and two grandchildren.
On February 19, 2020, Mother Helen entered into a peaceful slumber, surrounded by her loving family.
Cherishing a beautiful memory are – two devoted sons, Jerome (Lillian) Wright of Brunson, SC, and Dwayne (LaTonja) Wright of Atlanta, GA; two devoted daughters, Gwendolyn Wright of New York, NY, and Caroline (Charles) Hunter of Brunson, SC; one brother-in- law, Louis Wright, Sr., of Lakeland, FL; 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
