A Time to be Born: The daughter of the late Mr. William Arnold Lightsey and Mrs. Mary Buckner Lightsey in Hampton County,
South Carolina on February 5, 1936.
A Time to Plant: Mary received her education in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. At an early age she joined St. John Baptist Church, Varnville, SC and later united with
Greater Cherry Grove (DCC), Varnville, SC.
A Time to Build Up: She was employed as a domestic technician for private homes, married to the late Mr. Eugene Hay, and six children were born to this union. A son, Gene Lydell Hay has preceded her in death.
A Time to Die: Our Heavenly Father called her from labor to reward on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: five children, Shirley Hay of Hampton, SC, Marvin (Gloria Jean) Hay of Fairfax, SC, Brenda Hay of Hampton, SC, Mary Lou Hay of Aiken, SC and Jimmie (Cynthia) Hay of Hampton, SC; nine grandchildren; fifteen great- grandchildren; an uncle, Mr. Joe (Sena Mae) Buckner, Hampton, SC; an aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner, Paterson, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
