Rufus Lateef Capers, Sr., was born November 3, 1972, the son of Mr. Rufus and Mrs. Deloris Capers of Varnville, South Carolina. At an early age, he joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Hampton, South Carolina. Rufus received his education in the public schools of Hampton County and was a 1991 graduate of Wade Hampton High School, Varnville, South Carolina.
“Chief”, as he was affectionately called, was a member of Mt. Olive Lodge #466, Hampton, South Carolina, and Antioch Chapter #31, Varnville, South Carolina. He was a former employee of Scotsman Ice Systems, Fairfax, South Carolina, and RSI of Bluffton, South Carolina. Rufus loved to barbecue and would often refer to himself as the “Grill Master’’ of R& B Barbecue.
On May 9, 2019, at his residence in Varnville, South Carolina, he entered into eternal rest.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Sharon Priester Capers; five loving children, Recaridell Capers of Wayesboro, SC, Tushmbay L. Jackson of Greenville, SC, and Quaderia Priester; Columbia,SC, Shadiamond Capers, Cummings, SC, Rufus Capers, Jr, of the home; five grandchildren; his parents, Rufus and Deloris Capers; mother- and father-in-law, Carrie and Larry Priester of Varnville, SC; two brothers, Aubrey (Ashley) Capers of Simpsonville, SC, and Paul Capers of Varnville, SC; grandmother, Emma
L. Wright, of Varnville, SC; step-grandmother, Emma Smith of Hampton, SC; two brothers- in-law, Bernard Priester of Varnville, SC, and Ray (Marilyn) Priester of Hopewell, VA; two sisters-in-law, Melissa (Andrew) Jones of Statesboro, GA, and Mary Ann Priester of Woodbridge, VA; 22 uncles and 21 aunts; six great-aunts and five great-uncles; and a host of nieces and nephews; godsister, Adrian Orr; godbrother, Richard Dobson, Jr.; several cousins, including a special cousin, Rahman Muwakkil; many friends, including two special friends, Mike Smalls and Damien Capers
