Verna Lee Grant was born in Varnville, South Carolina on June 20, 1958 to the late Steven Tony Grant and Corine Hayes Grant. She departed this life on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 to be with the Lord, at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.At an early age, Verna joined the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an active member, until her health failed. She was educated in the Hampton County public school system.
Verna, affectionately known as “Vern” by everyone, is preceded in death by her parents; son, Travis Deon Grant; two brothers, Johnny “J.T.” Grant and Willie James Grant; and sister, Bessie Smith. She leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters, Sophia Laquana Grant and Tiffany Sakara Grant (Quwan), both of Hampton, SC; two sisters, Annie V. Rivers (Leon), of Hampton, SC and Mary J. Grant, of Varnville, SC; one brother, Johnny Robert Hayes (Loran), of Varnville, SC; sister-in-law, Annette Grant, of Hampton, SC; two special grandsons, Tyrell Deon Grant and Miles Devon Grant, both of Varnville, SC; a very devoted friend of 40 years, Mr. Rudolph (Rudy) Housey, of Estill, SC; Mrs. Elizabeth Housey, of Estill, SC, Miss Barbara Housey, of Maryland; her devoted girl-friends, Miss Georgella Scriven and Deloris Smith, both of Varnville, SC and Mrs. Donnette Williams, of Columbia, SC; a very special niece, Denise (Neece) Buchanon; numerous nieces and nephews, who loved her, and a host of loving and devoted friends.
